SolidDNS, with release 2.0, is the first DNS appliance to deliver full DHCPv6 support. With the addition of DHCPv6 features, SolidDNS can support both stateless and stateful autoconfiguration, giving network managers greater flexibility in managing their new IPv6 networks.

Stateless autoconfiguration is a key benefit of IPv6, the next generation Internet protocol. Autoconfiguration allows a device to automatically receive an IP address without contacting the server for one. This is made possible through IPv6 features such as router advertisements, neighbor discovery and duplicate-address detection. Autoconfiguration is an easier approach for smaller, less taxing networks.

Stateful address-configuration as provided by DHCPv6 delivers IP addresses and service information to devices, and both the server and the device maintain this information allowing network administrators to better monitor and maintain devices on their network.
