About DHCPv6
DHCPv6 is the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol for IPv6 networks. Since IPv6 network devices can make use of stateless autoconfiguration to assign IP addresses, this protocol is less important than DHCP in IPv4 networks, but it is still useful. Network administrators that need more control over the allocation of IP addresses can can use DHCPv6 to statefully assign addresses just as in DHCP for IPv4, as well as allocate other network information such as addresses of assigned DNS servers. It should be noted however that the DNS address can also be sent through Neighbor Discovery Protocol (specified in RFC 4339).
