A Strategy for the Implementation of IPv6 in Australian Government Agencies
IPv6 is here and like most governments all over the world, Australia has kicked off its transition from IPv4 to IPv6 with the release of an action plan dubbed, "A Strategy for the Implementation of IPv6 in Australian Government Agencies."
According to Ann Steward, the government's Chief Information Officer, Australia anticipates that it will be required to sustain IPv4 network traffic for at least the next ten years, but it expects IPv6 to explode and dominate in the next 3 to 5 years. Hence, she said, there's a need to have a coordinated planning of the transition to allow agencies to take advantage of the features of dual capable IPv4/IPv6 platforms as they become available.
