What's New

1. Restricted UNIX Shell

Preferred by most administrators, this feature aids in advanced troubleshooting and network diagnostics with common tools like tcpdump, dig, nslookup, ping, ping6, traceroute, traceroute6, telnet, ssh, scp, and other UNIX commands.

2. New API Method

sdns.systemstatus.configremotelogservers

This method enables and disables remote logging, and allows administrators to add and remove remote log servers.

Enhancements

1. OS, BIND Engine and DHCP Updates

This version has been upgraded to FreeBSD 8.2, BIND 9.8.0-P4, and DHCP 3.1-ESV-R1.

FreeBSD 8.2 enhancements include the following:

a. Updated network interface drivers
b. VLAN improvement
c. Continued SMP scalability improvements in many areas
d. Upgraded ports to latest versions
e. Many miscellaneous improvements and bug fixes

2. BIND Config Generator Optimization

In this version, it takes 70% less waiting time to apply changes to the DNS service.

3. S-Shield Service

This feature has been further enhanced to include an option specifying a DNS Resource Record type when setting parameters to an S-Shield rule. An alert is generated when a captured packet matches a rule with a particular RR type.

4. Software Updates

This version allows administrators to cancel an ongoing software update process and notifies them of a disconnection while downloading an update package.

5. DHCP Enhancements

This version introduces two noteworthy DHCP address filtering options -- MAC filtering and Option 82 (The Relay Agent Information Option) -- which allow administrators to create a client class that matches the MAC Organizationally Unique Identifier (OIU) for the former option, and either sub-options “Agent Remote ID” or “Agent Circuit ID” for the latter.

6. Reset to Factory Default

This version provides administrators with two more options when reverting data and configurations of the appliance back to factory preset values. Aside from the current Full Reset option wherein all data and configurations of the appliance are reverted, the new Partial Reset and Network Reset options erases all DNS and DHCP data. What sets the two apart is that the second option also deletes all network information. After rebooting from network reset, the default IP address of the appliance is used if no IP address from the DHCP server is assigned.

7. Pointer Records

This version introduces two Pointer Records (PTR) enhancements for easy management. The auto-creation of multiple PTR by specifying an IP range for a network or reverse zone is a handy tool for administrators whose best practice includes populating a reverse zone with default hostnames and IP addresses. Navigation through a list of PTR or network is effortless with an added button to initiate search by specifying either the FDQN or the IP address of the PTR record.

8. Logs

This version gives administrators option to enable or disable logging of DNS query errors. Also, audit logs can now be exported in CSV format; the files of which can be downloaded and saved in a preferred location. An option to input start and end date is also available if you prefer to download only certain logs.

9. New SNMP MIBs

a. The MIB2 Address Translation Group
b. The MIB2 IP Group
c. The MIB2 ICMP Group
d. The MIB2 TCP Group
e. The MIB2 UDP Group
f. The SNMP Group
g. UCD-SNMP-MIB::ssCpuRawNice
