SolidDNS 4.1.409 64-bit CD Installer Image
Managed Server Module
This version adds another facet to the Managed Server module by giving administrator the ability to
“clone” another SolidDNS™ appliance hosted in a different location. Unlike, however, to an ordinary
slave in an Active-Passive high-availability setup, this clone can act simultaneously as a caching server;
thus, serving a useful purpose on the network and not just an expensive appendage that springs into
action only when the Master goes down. This ability to replicate over two distant locations will allow
SolidDNS™ very soon to offer high availability over WAN in Active-Active mode.
VLAN and IP Aliasing Support
Also new in version 4.1 is support for VLAN (802.1Q) tagging and IP aliasing, which increases the
usefulness of the appliance, as it is now capable of serving and providing reliable DNS service to multiple
network segments, including VLANs which has become increasingly popular of late. In addition, the
appliance can now be used as NTP server.
Other Enhancements
This version also supports DNAME, which is useful for migration purposes, and offers better handling of
pointer records, especially auto-generated PTRs. There’s also a Watcher Service that sends notifications
to administrators when thresholds set for CPU, memory or disk usage are reached; while system graphs
now keep track of statistics of the last 30 days and 12 months
