OECD Report: Internet Addressing - Measuring Deployment of IPv6

A survey of IPv6 deployment around the world shows a surging demand for IPv6, indicating that the rapid transition from IPv4 is finally taking place. The study conducted by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the group of 30 highly industrialized countries, also found that IPv6 is operationally ready.

"There is clear evidence that IPv6 hosts and service delivery platforms are being deployed. There is also evidence that a visible proportion of the organisations that manage the infrastructure of the Internet are undertaking various forms of IPv6 deployments. IPv6 interconnectedness is increasing quickly," the study reads.

As a result, it added, IPv6 adoption has also significantly increased: "By early 2010, IPv6 was still a small proportion of the Internet. However, IPv6 use was growing faster than continued IPv4 use, albeit from a low base. And several large-scale deployments are taking place or are planned." Read the OECD Report
