ISPs and telecommunications companies typically cater to varied markets with very large subscriber bases. SolidDNS™ appliances may be deployed in such organizations as tiered caching servers to maximize performance and balance traffic loads.

With built-in support for upstream caching, SolidDNS™ appliances allow subsequent queries to be to be cached, optimizing response time and conserve bandwidth for Internet DNS lookups. If a main server become unavailable, other SolidDNS™ appliances can still resolve to the Internet. One or more SolidDNS™ appliances may be added as a pair to an existing server, allowing queries to be offloaded to the corresponding pairs.

The diagram shows a tiered deployment of SolidDNS™ caching servers, where clients from the different subscriber groups make queries to the main SolidDNS™ server, and responses are cached at the downstream SolidDNS™ servers assigned to each subscriber group. Should the main server go down, the other SolidDNS™ servers can still resolve to the internet.
