InfoWeapons Upgrades Cluster Management Module of SolidDNS™ Appliance
Dulles, VA – June 3, 2010 - InfoWeapons, Inc. announces the release of SolidDNS™ 4.1, which adds several new features, including an enhancement to the appliance's cluster management module.
This version gives administrators the ability to clone the cluster manager and distribute these exact replicas in different locations to act as backups. But unlike an ordinary Slave pair in a typical high availability (HA) setup, a clone can simultaneously act as a caching server; thus, it actually performs a useful function, not just an expensive appendage that springs into action only when the Master goes down.
"This enhancement is part of a meticulous roadmap to make the cluster management module a complete and comprehensive solution," says InfoWeapons CEO Luis Gopez. "One of the key benefits this particular release offers is HA over WAN. Very soon we will be supporting Anycast, which should make our cluster solution ideal for enterprises with multiple or redundant systems."
Another feature making its debut in version 4.1 is support for VLAN (802.1Q) tagging and IP aliasing, which gives the appliance the ability to serve multiple network segments. Now, instead of using separate DNS servers for the LAN and VLANs, a single SolidDNS™ appliance will do.
Other enhancements is the DNAME support, which is useful for migration purposes, and a Watcher Service that notifies the administrator when thresholds set for CPU, memory or disk usage are reached. It also archives graphs for the last 30 days and 12 months and handles auto-generated pointer records better than the previous versions.
InfoWeapons first introduced the cluster management module in version 4.0 back in November. It recently gained another Gold certification under the IPv6-Ready Logo Program of the IPv6 Forum. This latest upgrade is available for free to those buying the appliance for the first time and existing customers with unexpired Annual Protection Plans.
