APNIC Activates 'Stage 3' Policy to Prolong IPv4 Supply in Asia

Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC), one of five regional internet registries, has reached "Stage 3" of IPv4 exhaustion, triggering changes on how it distributes IP addresses in the region.

The organization, which put up a frequently asked questions (FAQs) page, said each APNIC member will now receive only a single allocation of the current minimum IPv4 allocation size (/22), if they meet the current criteria.

"The APNIC community wants to ensure that new and existing LIRs can receive a minimum amount of IPv4 addresses to assist with their transitions to IPv6. This policy allows from around 16,000 to 65,000 independent networks to benefit from the Final /8 pool, which should last for many years into the future," it said.
